Takashi Murakami (Tokyo, 1963), is one of the leading figures in contemporary Japanese art. In his work, which includes painting, sculpture, wallpaper and design, public art projects, graphic illustration, and curating, Murakami gives a personal interpretation to the principal elements of Japanese pop culture, such as manga comic strips, removing them from their context and imbuing them with new, provocative meanings.
